With Mt Kangtega and Mt Thamserku in the backdrop, Krishna Bahadur Basnet uses a measuring wheel to gauge the distance of the proposed Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon track at Thukla, Solukhumbu, Nepal, on Thursday, March 15, 2007. The 42.195 km Everest Marathon, which runs through Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazaar, is the world’s highest altitude marathon. The measurement is in preparation for this year’s Marathon that will take place on May 29. In 1999, Hari Bahadur Rokaya of Nepal clocked 3hr 16min 3sec and entered the Guinness Book. His record is expected to be broken this year as some 50 foreigners and more than 100 Nepali runners are to participate.
